Position Description:

As a Tax Manager you will play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of tax and accounting services to our clients. You will lead and mentor a team of Staff Accountants, Senior Accountants, and Supervisors, actively contributing to client relationship development and firm expansion. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Directly managing client relationships, becoming the primary client contact.
  • Overseeing the preparation and review of diverse tax returns, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Collaborating with partners to enhance efficiency, develop staff, and improve firm earnings.
  • Playing a key role in suggesting and implementing initiatives for the firm's ongoing success and inclusive culture.
  • Utilizing and enhancing technical and personal skills within a collaborative working environment.

Location: While we consider candidates in the Pacific and Central time zones for fully remote positions, we strongly prefer a local candidate who can work partially from our Pleasanton, CA office.

Compensation: This position offers a competitive base salary in the range of $120,000 - $150,000 annually. Additionally, you can earn from two potential compensation pools linked to achieving annual charged hour goals and performance development goals , with a prorated structure in the first year.

Education, Licensing, and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in accounting, tax, or a related field.
  • Valid and current CPA license; an EA license is acceptable but progression beyond Manager requires a CPA license.
  • Completed or working toward a Master's Degree in Taxation or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience with a public accounting firm.

Skills and Experience:

  • Expertise in reviewing complex tax returns for various entities.
  • Familiarity with multi-state taxation, real estate, and high net worth individuals.
  • Proficiency in Lacerte and/or ProSystems FX and standard software such as Adobe, Excel, Word, Outlook, and research tools.
  • Mastery in researching tax legislation/standards and explaining complex tax matters effectively.

Engagement Management and Budgets:

  • Ability to create and manage engagement budgets.
  • Ownership of engagement economics, client billing, and client communication.
  • Effective management of multiple tax and audit engagements.

Client Relationships:

  • Ability to take ownership of client relationships and identify potential projects and value-added services.
  • Active participation in networking and business development opportunities.

Staff Development:

  • Experience in staff development through training, mentoring, coaching, and involvement in recruiting and interviewing.
