Job Role & Key Responsibilities:

The Mechanical Maintenance Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of a highly automated manufacturing site. The role focuses on planned and reactive mechanical maintenance, fault-finding, and continuous improvement to minimise downtime and maximise plant performance within a fast-paced industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out mechanical maintenance, fault-finding, and breakdown repairs on automated production equipment
  • Work on conveyors, mixers, ovens, kilns, pneumatics, hydraulics, and associated systems
  • Complete PPMs to a high standard and maintain accurate maintenance records
  • Perform general welding, fabrication, and basic machining where required
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety procedures, risk assessments, and permit-to-work systems
  • Isolate plant and equipment using lock-off procedures prior to maintenance
  • Support plant shutdowns, start-ups, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Work collaboratively within a large, multi-skilled engineering team
  • Be flexible with overtime, shift cover, and training requirements

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Recognised mechanical qualification (NVQ Level 3 / ONC / HND or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 3 years mechanical maintenance experience
  • Background in FMCG or heavy industrial manufacturing environments
  • Strong fault-finding skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • A solid understanding of health & safety practices in industrial settings
  • Willingness to work a Panama days and nights shift pattern

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of PLC systems and industrial sensors (PNP / NPN)
  • Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, and automated machinery
  • Welding, fabrication, and basic machining experience
  • Training or awareness in lifting & slinging, HAVS, confined space, working at height, and isolation procedures
