Senior Financial Accountant

Mid-Sized New Zealand Organisation | Full-Time | Office-Based (5 Days per Week)

We are seeking a capable and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join a well-established, mid-sized Auckland manufacturing organisation. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a senior finance role with responsibility for financial reporting, compliance, and leadership of the Accounts Administration team.

This is a full-time, office-based role (five days per week) with on-site car parking provided.

About the Role

The Financial Accountant will play a key role in maintaining financial integrity, supporting business performance, and ensuring strong internal controls across the organisation.

In addition to core financial reporting responsibilities, you will lead and oversee the Accounts Administration team, ensuring efficient day-to-day processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general finance administration functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes
• Manage general ledger reconciliations and journal entries
• Ensure compliance with relevant tax obligations (GST, PAYE, FBT)
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
• Provide financial analysis and reporting to the senior leadership team
• Coordinate external audit processes and liaise with auditors
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls and financial procedures
• Oversee fixed asset management and balance sheet integrity
• Identify and implement process improvements

Team Leadership Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and manage the Accounts Administration team
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and transactional processing
• Ensure timely and accurate invoicing, payments, and reconciliations
• Support staff development and performance management
• Ensure strong internal compliance and financial discipline across the team

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
• CA or CPA qualification (or working towards) preferred
• Proven experience as a Financial Accountant or similar senior finance role
• Demonstrated experience managing or supervising an accounts team
• Strong knowledge of NZ accounting standards and tax compliance
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems
• High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
• Confident communication skills and ability to engage with senior leadership
• A hands-on leadership style and collaborative approach

Experience within a mid-sized commercial organisation will be highly regarded.
