Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand (CANZ) is the international aid and development agency in New Zealand for the Catholic Church. Their mission is amplifying the voice of the poor and vulnerable and working for a world free of poverty and injustice. They are a member of Caritas Internationalis, an international confederation of over 160 Catholic aid, development, and social justice agencies. Caritas is the second largest humanitarian organisation in the world.

Caritas are seeking for an approximate 12 month fixed term contract a International Programmes Coordinator to join their team.

In this role you will report to the Head of International Development and Humanitarian Programmes, the International Programmes Coordinator is accountable for supporting the planning, implementation, and enhancement of international development programmes. This position is responsible for ensuring that programmes are executed efficiently, stay within budget, and meet organisational objectives.

This role involves coordinating programme activities, providing support, and assisting the team in maintaining programme schedules and deliverables.

  • MFAT - specifically officials of the International Development Group within MFAT
  • Council for International Development (CID)
  • International development partner agencies
  • Other NZ development agencies
  • Church and secular groups
  • Māori Catholic communities.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL

  • Bachelors degree in international development, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience in programme coordination, project management, or a similar role, preferably within a non-profit or international development organization.
  • Aware and sensitive to cultural differences and diversity
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Caritas
  • Aware of aid policy trends
  • Ability to take responsibility and work within a small team context
  • Commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
  • Has awareness of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori
  • Has a sound understanding of subsidiarity and how this relates to the work of the International Development and Humanitarian Programmes team within Caritas.

DESIRABLE

  • Previous commitment to and involvement in justice and peace activities
  • Previous overseas work-related experience in Humanitarian sectors would be an advantage
  • Has some understanding and awareness of how the Catholic Church works, and has an understanding and commitment to Catholic social teaching
  • Comfortable with information technology, including adequate word processing and spreadsheet skills
