The IT Infrastructure Director provides strategic direction for the organization's technical infrastructure and security including responsibilities for on-premises and cloud infrastructure, networking, telephony, Microsoft 365, Azure, cyber-security, and IT Service Management (ITSM). The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in leading technical managers for service delivery excellence. This leadership role will influence leadership throughout the business to ensure the successful implementation of IT initiatives. This role will report directly to the head of IT and will be responsible for ensuring the security, stability, and scalability of our IT infrastructure while supporting the needs of the organization.

Key Points:

  1. Leadership: Director or higher level experience leading 3+ other technical managers with their own teams, transforming culture, process, and policies from conflict to cohesion, with continuous improvement for customer service, accountability, professionalism, etc.
  2. Direct reports of at least three levels of management (so a larger organization)
  3. Leadership: Executive presence to not shy away from conflict, provide coaching, and hold others accountable.
  4. Leadership: Track record of managing strong personalities and gaining respect to lead a strategy that everyone can get behind. 
  5. Ownership and accountability experience with large-scale infrastructure projects from concept to closure including project management, vendor management, financial management, change management, etc. Example projects accountable for:
    • Moving on-premise Microsoft products to Azure Cloud and Microsoft 365
    • Upgrading the corporate phone system to a modern cloud solution
    • Architect-level Microsoft infrastructure credentials and experience - Windows servers, Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, and the cloud equivalents with Azure and Microsoft 365
    • CyberSecurity credentials (CISSP, CISM, CISA) and experience

Responsibilities of Position:

  • Develop high-performing teams with accountability and ownership.
  • Lead and manage IT technical managers who with their teams are responsible for cybersecurity, compliance, networking, telephony, on-premises and cloud infrastructure, virtualization, servers, storage, service desk, user device management, and mobile device management.
  • Develop technical strategy and standards, architecture, and own the technology roadmap for IT infrastructure.
  • Consult with IT Steering Committee/Officer level executives on business priorities, strategies, and initiatives to ensure alignment.
  • Consult constituent customers to foster strong working relationships and ascertain current and future needs to ensure appropriate systems are available, fit for purpose, and fit for use in a timely manner to meet changing business needs.
  • Lead M&A technical due diligence and integration planning and execution.
  • Ensure that key technical decisions are thoroughly assessed for considerations including alternatives, technical facets, security, financial, support, etc.
  • Maintain appropriate policies, procedures, and best practice guidelines.
  • Strengthen and optimize the IT service delivery quality and effectiveness.
  • Establish and manage service level metrics for continuous improvement.
  • Lead the adoption of ITIL-based best practices.
  • Ensure teams follow system change best practices for reviews, approvals, design, build, test, communication, deployment, hyper-care, and adoption.
  • Ensure teams maintain accurate records of systems assets and architectures and ensure changes are communicated and understood.
  • Proactively coach and develop team members to resolve conflict, enhance both technical and soft skills, and build strong relationships within and across teams and business areas.
  • Plan, budget, and lead cross-functional IT projects in alignment with a strategic roadmap.
  • Manage and optimize costs related to IT infrastructure and services.
  • Stays current with technology trends and proactively provides technology recommendations.

Competencies/Skills Required:

  • Excellent Leadership, customer service, communication, and relationship skills
  • Extensive working knowledge of Cybersecurity, compliance, and networking
  • Extensive working knowledge of supporting, maintaining, and administering Microsoft operating systems, including Active Directory and all versions of Windows Servers
  • Extensive working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365
  • Working knowledge of Virtualization Environments (VMware).
  • Working knowledge of supporting the Linux operating system is a plus
  • Storage and Backup systems
  • Vendor Management

Experience/Education Required/Desired:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a similar degree, or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years in a senior technical leadership position
  • 8+ years in systems engineering, administration, and vendor management
  • 2+ years administering a Microsoft Office 365 tenant account, including Exchange Online and Azure AD.
  • 3+ years managing and/or experience architecting a Cloud-based infrastructure such as Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure.
  • 4+ years working with state-of-the-art, robust infrastructures, and using best practices to design, deploy, and maintain both on-premise and cloud-based systems.
  • Supporting a complex infrastructure across multiple branch offices
  • Project Management
  • CCNA, CISSP, and/or ITIL 
  • PMP, CISSM, Azure Solutions Architect preferred
