The Company

A Series B fintech with their product already live. The funding is in, and the team is now scaling the people who build it. This is the moment before things get big, which means whoever joins now helps decide how this company hires for years to come.

The Role

This is the first dedicated recruiting hire, not a seat inside an established machine. You will own technical hiring end to end and build the function from the ground up: the sourcing strategy, the interview process, the scorecards, the data that tells everyone whether it's working. You will partner directly with engineering and company leadership, with no layers between you and the people making decisions. Location: New York City, hybrid.

What You Will Do

  • Own full-cycle technical recruiting, from sourcing through close, across engineering, data, and AI roles
  • Build the hiring infrastructure from scratch: sourcing playbooks, scorecards, interview loops, and the ATS configuration behind them
  • Set and protect the talent bar while moving fast, hiring quality people in volume without letting standards slip
  • Track the funnel with real numbers, conversion rates, and pipeline analytics, and use them to fix what isn't working
  • Coach hiring managers and push back on leadership when the process or the bar needs defending
  • Tell candidates a story about this company that makes strong people want to leave their current job for it

What You Bring to the Table

  • 5+ years of full-cycle recruiting, with 3+ years owning technical pipelines (engineering, data, AI/ML, infrastructure)
  • Experience as the first or one of the first recruiters at a recognizable startup, where you built the function rather than inherited it. This is the core requirement and the thing that matters most
  • A track record of closing strong candidates and a specific story about what made one of them exceptional
  • Proof you can build systems, not simply fill reqs: scorecards, sourcing strategy, ATS setup (Greenhouse or Ashby), funnel reporting
  • Comfort with data: you know your conversion rates and you use them to make decisions
  • The judgment to manage senior stakeholders and the spine to disagree with them when you're right
  • Based in New York City

What You Will Get

  • Base salary of $140,000 to $200,000, depending on experience
  • A role with real ownership, where you build the hiring function instead of maintaining one

Hiring process: 5-steps: a screening call, followed by interviews with the hiring manager and company leadership.
