Job Summary:
Leads and implements artifact conservation, restoration, and preventive care using scientifically approved methods, sustainable materials, and international best practices to preserve cultural and historical value. Oversees assessments, research, projects, and policies while ensuring compliance, risk management, and collaboration to support effective heritage conservation and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Implement artifact conservation, treatment, and restoration works using scientifically approved methods and internationally recognized best practices.
- Develop, review, and enhance procedures for handling sensitive, fragile, and damaged artifacts, ensuring the use of scientifically validated, sustainable, and innovative conservation materials and techniques in compliance with applicable international standards.
- Conduct condition assessments of artifacts, including examination, documentation, and reporting; determine conservation priorities based on historical significance, condition, exhibition requirements, and loan considerations; and submit findings and recommendations.
- Perform periodic condition monitoring of artifacts in museums, storage facilities, and archaeological site buildings, and report results and recommendations.
- Carry out scientific examinations and laboratory analyses of artifacts and archaeological samples in local and international laboratories, in coordination with relevant entities.
- Execute and support archaeological lifting works of discoveries at sites in accordance with internationally accepted best practices.
- Perform other assigned duties as related to the role.
Requirements:
- Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience
- Must have extensive experience working within European conservation standards, methodologies, and institutional frameworks
- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Conservation and Restoration, Engineering, Historical Monuments, or an equivalent field
- Must have strong knowledge of artifact conservation, restoration, and preventive conservation techniques
- Must be proficient in scientific analysis and laboratory testing of artifacts
- Open to candidates within or outside the UAE.
