Role Purpose

Manage the Sharia coordination and review vertical to ensure that the queries and customer complaints are dealt effectively and recommended proposals are presented to ISSC. To support related Dar Al Sharia tasks or activities assigned by the Line Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Sharia Review and ISSC Support

  • Supervise the Sharia review of contracts, documents and customer complaints or queries.
  • Present review findings and proposed structures to the ISSC for approval or guidance.
  • Supervise the review of procedural manuals and accounting entries from a Sharia perspective, and help improve them in line with ISSC guidance.
  • Supervise the review of banking systems from a Sharia perspective, and help improve them in line with ISSC guidance.

Research, Fatwas and Communication

  • Supervise Sharia research, the fatwa system and translation, following departmental policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the communication of formal ISSC decisions and fatwas to the relevant departments, branches and employees.
  • Run clarification calls with all concerned parties so they fully understand the ISSC's guidance on complex or non-standard matters.

Team Leadership

  • Coach and develop the team by identifying training needs and assigning suitable learning platforms.
  • Review team performance and deliverables against approved KPIs.

Compliance and Governance

  • Ensure compliance with approved policies, procedures, SLAs and regulatory requirements, to maintain quality and reduce risk.
  • Ensure all tasks and projects are delivered within departmental policies, procedures and SLAs.

This role also includes any additional tasks or responsibilities assigned by the Line Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

Education (either of the following):

  • University degree in economics, accounting, banking or finance, with knowledge of Sharia; or
  • University degree in Sharia, with knowledge of economics, accounting, banking or finance.

Experience

  • Minimum 7–8 years in a relevant role within a Sharia department.
