Job Openings Senior Data Engineer (Leading DeFi/MEV project)

About the job Senior Data Engineer (Leading DeFi/MEV project)

About the Client

The client is on a mission to protect Ethereum users from MEV and optimize trade execution across DeFi. This is achieved through a suite of tools including a leading intent-based DEX aggregator and the innovative MEV Blocker, which together help secure, aggregate, and route trades for optimal outcomes. The client also funds values-aligned projects via a grants program.

The protocol consistently ranks among the top DEX aggregators by monthly volume and is the largest intent-based exchange. Their MEV Blocker protects trades from harmful MEV extraction and is integrated widely across the Ethereum ecosystem. The client also operates the only live AMM designed to protect liquidity providers from LVR (loss-versus-rebalancing).

With over 100 open-source repositories on GitHub, the client is transparent, community-driven, and deeply committed to open-source values. Their real-time Dune Analytics dashboard showcases billions in cumulative trading volume and a fast-growing user base. As the project scales, the client remains at the forefront of DeFi innovation, prioritizing security, efficiency, and decentralization.

About the Role

Location: Fully remote (Preference for Europe or remote ±4 hours CEST)

Contract Type: Full-time contractor

Note: Not hiring from the US, Australia, or New Zealand

Data plays a central role in how the client understands on-chain activity and operates its fair combinatory auction system.

They're hiring a Data Engineer excited to dive deep into blockchain data (Ethereum and other L1/L2s), enrich it with insights from their off-chain auction infrastructure, and build pipelines and systems that make data accessible and actionable across the organization.

This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys solving complex data challenges, and wants to shape the data foundation of a leading DeFi protocol.

What Youll Do

  • Collaborate across teams to understand data needs and deliver actionable insights

  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines for on-chain and off-chain data

  • Ensure data quality and reliability through testing, monitoring, and documentation

  • Create accessible tools and dashboards (e.g., Redash, Metabase, Looker)

  • Stay updated on the blockchain data ecosystem; experiment with new tools

  • Own projects end-to-end: idea deployment maintenance

Who You Are

  • Solid experience designing and maintaining scalable data systems (data lakes, warehouses, pipelines)

  • Strong Python and SQL coding skills

  • Comfortable with blockchain data APIs (e.g., Dune, Etherscan, CoinGecko)

  • Familiar with Ethereum transaction decoding and simulation tools (e.g., Tenderly, Phalcon)

  • Experienced with orchestration tools (Dagster, Airflow, Prefect)

  • You write clean, tested, maintainable code with strong monitoring and deployment habits

  • Self-starter, collaborative, and ownership-driven

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with AWS, GCP, or other cloud platforms

  • Prior experience in high-growth startups

  • Contributions to or usage of open-source data/analytics tools in Web3

  • Conference and learning budgets

  • Hardware budget for work essentials

  • Flat hierarchy, high ownership, and low bureaucracy

  • Flexible time off for strong work-life balance
