Position Title: Security Officer

The Organization is an International Non-Governmental Organization working with vulnerable women and female youth.

Position Summary

The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment, ensuring the protection of people, property, and assets, while also supporting general operational needs where required.

Key Responsibilities

1. Security and Safety Management

  • Monitor premises and control access to the facility
  • Patrol the compound and identify security risks
  • Prevent theft, intrusion, and unauthorized access

2. Surveillance and Reporting

  • Observe and report suspicious activities or incidents
  • Maintain accurate logs of daily security activities
  • Record movement of staff, visitors, and deliveries

3. Emergency Response

  • Respond effectively to emergencies, including security breaches and incidents
  • Support conflict management and de-escalation
  • Liaise with management on security-related issues

4. Asset Protection

  • Safeguard organizational property and infrastructure
  • Monitor compliance with safety procedures

5. General Duties and Support

  • Assist with visitor coordination and reception
  • Maintain professional interaction with staff and guests
  • Support additional duties based on skills (e.g., agriculture, driving), where applicable

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or equivalent minimum qualification.
  • Additional security-related training or certification is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant security experience.
  • Experience in institutional, residential, NGO, or community-based environments is preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong observation and surveillance skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and during emergencies.
  • Good judgment and decision-making ability.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • High level of integrity, reliability, and professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform patrol duties.

Other Requirements

  • Good working understanding of English (required), with ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of Ateso, Karimojong, or Swahili is an added advantage.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Monthly Basic salary: UGX 500,000 – UGX 600,000
  • Benefits:
    • On-site accommodation may be provided during duty periods, subject to operational requirements and role arrangements.
    • Meals provided while on duty.
    • Medical reimbursement (UGX 250,000 per year).
    • Additional benefits may apply in line with organisational policy.
