Associate Attorney – Employment & Commercial Litigation

About the Role

A national litigation firm is seeking an Associate Attorney with a minimum of 2 years of employment litigation experience to join its San Francisco office. This role involves handling complex employment and commercial litigation matters in both state and federal courts. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience managing employment-related disputes and is prepared to take an active role in all phases of litigation.

This is an opportunity to work within a sophisticated litigation practice while gaining meaningful responsibility, client exposure, and courtroom experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage employment litigation matters from inception through resolution.
  • Draft and argue motions, including dispositive motions and discovery motions.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, briefs, and memoranda.
  • Take and defend depositions, including party and expert witnesses.
  • Draft and respond to written discovery, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission.
  • Participate in mediations, arbitrations, and settlement negotiations.
  • Prepare cases for trial, including pretrial filings, exhibit preparation, and witness coordination.
  • Communicate directly with clients regarding case strategy and status updates.
  • Appear in state and federal courts as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2+ years of employment litigation experience required.
  • Experience handling employment-related claims such as discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour, wrongful termination, or related matters.
  • Strong drafting skills and motion practice experience.
  • Experience in both California state and federal courts preferred.
  • Ability to independently manage case responsibilities while collaborating within a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Active membership in the California Bar in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with complex commercial litigation in addition to employment matters.
  • Experience with depositions and court appearances.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
