Chief Operating Officer / Executive Vice President / General Manager

Residential Homebuilding & Multifamily Development

About the Role

The Chief Operating Officer will serve as the senior operational executive responsible for driving revenue growth, operational execution, and full P&L performance across a vertically integrated residential homebuilding and multifamily development platform. The company refined its delivery model through accessory dwelling units but today operates primarily as a builder of single-family homes, subdivisions, and multifamily communities.

Reporting directly to the Founder and President, this role is responsible for aligning sales growth, land acquisition, subdivision development, construction operations, and financial performance. The ideal candidate is a hands-on housing executive who understands how land pipeline, absorption rates, production capacity, and margin discipline must operate in sync to scale a residential platform successfully.

This is a growth-oriented leadership role focused on execution, profitability, and operational scale.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day operations across residential development, subdivision execution, and multifamily construction.
  • Own operational P&L performance, ensuring disciplined cost control and margin optimization.
  • Align sales strategy and absorption forecasts with land pipeline, entitlement timelines, and production capacity.
  • Oversee land acquisition coordination, subdivision planning, horizontal development, and permitting processes.
  • Ensure production schedules support predictable closings, revenue targets, and capital efficiency.
  • Implement KPIs tied to sales velocity, construction cycle time, gross margin, and return on capital.
  • Coordinate cross-functional execution across land, development, construction, sales, manufacturing, and finance.
  • Strengthen operational systems, reporting structures, and accountability frameworks.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement process improvements to accelerate delivery and improve profitability.
  • Lead and develop regional leaders, project managers, and construction teams.
  • Support expansion into new residential markets and subdivisions.
  • Partner with the Founder on long-term growth strategy while owning tactical execution.

Qualifications

  • 12–15+ years of executive or senior leadership experience in residential homebuilding, subdivision development, or multifamily construction.
  • Proven track record managing community-level or regional P&L within a production homebuilding environment.
  • Direct experience overseeing land development, entitlement, and subdivision execution.
  • Demonstrated success aligning sales growth with operational capacity and financial performance.
  • Strong understanding of residential permitting, infrastructure development, and construction timelines.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams across sales, land, development, and construction.
  • Strong financial acumen including budgeting, forecasting, capital allocation, and margin management.
  • Experience working within investor-backed or growth-stage organizations preferred.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
