About the job Senior Estimation Engineer
Responsibilities:
- Guide and mentor estimating engineers, helping them to develop their technical skills and understanding of cost estimation processes.
- Conduct training sessions on cost estimation best practices, software tools, and industry trends.
- Lead internal reviews and validation processes for cost estimates, ensuring they are complete, accurate, and aligned with project scope and objectives.
- Participate in peer reviews with estimating engineers to provide constructive feedback and ensure quality.
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for projects, including pipelines, drilling platforms, refineries, and petrochemical plants across all phases, from concept to execution.
- Participate in project kick-off and review meetings to understand specific project requirements and ensure that cost considerations are integrated into planning and execution.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and ensure the estimates align with project goals and constraints.
- Analyze technical drawings, specifications, and project plans to understand the full scope of work.
- Estimate costs for equipment, materials, construction, labor, and other activities such as engineering, procurement, and commissioning.
- Work closely with engineering and design teams to ensure that the estimates cover all project requirements.
- Work with procurement teams to obtain quotes from vendors and subcontractors for materials, equipment, and services.
- Evaluate vendor proposals and subcontractor bids to ensure they align with the project scope and incorporate pricing and terms from these quotes into the overall project cost estimate.
- Use specialized cost estimation software (e.g., Aspen Capital Cost Estimator, MS Excel) to streamline the estimation process and enhance accuracy.
- Work closely with the project risk management team to ensure all risks are quantified and incorporated into the estimates.
- Identify potential risks that could impact project costs, such as delays, changes in market prices, or regulatory changes.
- Recommend appropriate contingency amounts to include in cost estimates to cover unforeseen expenses.
- Propose cost-saving solutions through value engineering by identifying areas where costs can be reduced without compromising quality or project scope. And work with engineering teams to evaluate alternative materials, construction methods, or design changes that can reduce and or optimize the overall project life cycle costs.
- Prepare detailed cost estimation reports and presentations for senior management, clients, and stakeholders.
- Clearly document the assumptions, methodologies, and data sources used to generate the estimate.
- Maintain records of all cost estimates, changes, and revisions throughout the project lifecycle for auditing and future reference.
Maintain an up-to-date database of costs related to materials, labor, and equipment for future reference. - Collect historical project data to improve the accuracy of cost projections and identify trends in the market.
- Continuously monitor changes in the cost of materials, labor rates, and industry standards that could impact project budgets.
- Continuously improve estimation skills and share best practices with estimators and other colleagues.
- Support the preparation of bids and tenders by providing accurate cost estimates based on the project scope and client requirements.
- Track and report any deviations between actual costs and estimated costs during the project execution phase.
