CHILI TEMPLATE BUILDER
About the job CHILI TEMPLATE BUILDER
Role Overview
The CHILI Template Builder is responsible for creating, maintaining, and troubleshooting dynamic, web-to-print templates within the CHILI GraFx platform. This role bridges graphic design and technical implementation — turning static Adobe files into smart, data-driven templates that regional users and clients can safely customize without breaking brand standards or print specs. This is a hands-on, ticket-driven role: you'll be building, fixing, and optimizing real templates for real clients from week one.
Key Responsibilities
Template Creation & Dynamic Layouts
- Transform Adobe InDesign files and client PDFs into GraFx Publisher templates, ensuring proper document setup (size, bleed, layers, trim/printer marks).
- Convert static layouts into responsive, reusable templates — dynamic frames, smart cropping, object anchoring, and alternate layouts for fully dynamic multi-format output.
Variable & Logic Configuration
- Build complex data models using text, image, and list variables.
- Implement conditional logic and dynamic behavior using CHILI Actions.
- Manage Company Profile Groups (CPGs) to auto-populate user/company data into templates.
Integration Management
- Associate CHILI templates with items in DB Commerce (DBc) and manage the test adjust reset workflow to push changes live.
Technical Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve rendering failures to determine why a high-res PDF failed to render.
- Resolve variable insertion errors, font licensing/loading issues, and slow template performance.
- Optimize complex templates to reduce load times on personalized promo items.
Asset & Environment Setup
- Organize asset libraries and folder structures.
- Partner with engineering to set up CHILI environments for new distributors.
Required Technical Skills
- Adobe Creative Suite: Proficiency in InDesign (initial layouts) and Acrobat (cleaning PDFs, removing embedded variable data).
- Print Production Knowledge: Solid grasp of print specs — CMYK, spot colors, trim/printer marks, font embedding, preflighting, and vendor-specific export requirements.
Nice to Have
- CHILI Expertise: Deep, hands-on knowledge of the CHILI editor — Foundations, Variables, Actions, and PDF Export Settings.
- Prior experience in a web-to-print or e-commerce personalization environment (business cards, letterhead, promo items, marketing collateral).
