About the job BOOKKEEPER
The Bookkeeper will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and year-end processes, and working closely with clients (sole traders, SMEs, limited companies) and the internal finance team. The role involves managing day-to-day transactions, completing reconciliations, and preparing financial reports using modern accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero), while ensuring compliance with UK accounting standards and tax regulations.
Key Responsibilities

Maintain full-cycle bookkeeping for client accounts (limited companies and sole traders), including daily recording of financial transactions (sales, purchases, payments, receipts).

Reconcile bank and credit card statements regularly.

Handle accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR): prepare invoices, follow up on payments, and process supplier payments.

Prepare monthly management reports such as cash flow, profit and loss, and balance sheet statements for internal and client review.

Support payroll processing when required, including data input and reconciliation.

Assist with VAT return preparation and other statutory filings in compliance with UK regulations.

Maintain and organise financial documents, receipts, and supporting schedules in an orderly filing system.

Support month-end and year-end closing processes alongside the senior accountant or finance manager.

Collaborate with clients, respond to bookkeeping-related queries, and provide basic software support for QuickBooks/Xero.
Required Qualifications & Skills

Minimum 2-3 years of proven bookkeeping experience in a professional setting.

Proficiency in QuickBooks and Xero.

Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, UK accounting standards, and general ledger management.

Experience reconciling bank accounts, credit cards, and managing AR/AP.

Excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail, and high numerical accuracy.

Good communication skills, with the ability to liaise with clients and explain financial information clearly.

Competence in Microsoft Excel (or similar) for reporting and analysis.

Ability to work independently, manage priorities effectively, and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications

Accounting qualification (e.g., AAT, ACCA, ICAEW) or equivalent.

Experience in payroll processing.

Experience preparing or assisting with VAT returns for UK-based clients.

Familiarity with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements.

Previous experience working in an accountancy firm or similar service environment.
