About the Position: Our Tumbleweed Deployment Demonstrator Mission (DDM) will require innovative mechatronics engineers who will be involved in the design, integration, and optimization of mechatronic systems for our Tumbleweed Rover. As a fully-fledged Mars Mission is soon approaching, Team Tumbleweed has reached a critical point in which our cutting-edge technology is being developed and tested at a high magnitude of complexity and intensity.
As a key member of our engineering team, you will contribute to the development of the rover's electromechanical systems, ensuring its autonomous mobility and functionality in an atmospheric reentry deployment experiment. We are hiring mechatronics engineers to work on either the rover structure or EDV (Entry and Decent Vehicle) depending on your level of experience and expertise.

Expectations:

Familiarity with designing and implementing mechatronic systems for space exploration missions, autonomous vehicles, or similar applications

Strong proficiency in control system design, sensor integration, and autonomous navigation algorithms

Strong capabilities in CAD modeling, 3D printing, simulation tools, testing

Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or higher degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or a related field

Expected commitment of at least 1.5 years and approximately 15 hours per week

Responsibilities:

Design and development of mechatronic systems for the Tumbleweed Rover, including actuation, sensing, and control systems.

Collaborate with our rover engineering teams to integrate mechatronic components seamlessly with the rover's overall architecture.

Design and optimize the systems for autonomous mobility for our rover and EDV.

Work closely with our EDV and rover aerodynamics engineers to optimize the design of the mechatronic system for both the EDV and rover sail system.

Collaborate with Power Engineers to design and optimize the power distribution systems for mechatronic components.

Establish comprehensive testing protocols for mechatronic systems, including functional testing, integration testing, and performance validation.
