About the Position: As the (Lead) Systems Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development, integration, and optimization of the Tumbleweed Rover’s systems. As a fully-fledged Mars Mission is soon approaching, Team Tumbleweed has reached a critical point in which our cutting-edge technology is being developed and tested at a high magnitude of complexity and intensity.
You will collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to ensure the seamless operation of the rover, the integration of the payload and sensor systems, and oversee the operations through manufacturing and demonstrator testing. This position requires a strong background in systems engineering, a deep understanding of aerospace technologies, and the ability to solve complex problems in a dynamic environment.

Proven experience in systems engineering, preferably in the aerospace or robotics industry

Strong knowledge of systems engineering principles, methodologies, and tools

Familiarity with designing and integrating payloads for space exploration missions

Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or higher degree in Systems, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or a related field

Expected commitment of at least 1.5 years and approximately 15 hours per week

(Lead) Leadership experience and the ability to lead a small team of engineers effectively

Responsibilities:

(Lead) Oversee the systems integration between the mission products.

(Lead) Regularly update the project leads on the development progress.

Contribute to the design and integration of the Tumbleweed Rover, Entry-Decent-Vehicle, Payload, and Ground Support Equipment, ensuring compatibility and functionality across all components.

Define and document system requirements based on actual project objectives as well as the upcoming Earth Demonstrator and a Mars Demonstrator Missions.

Design and implement workflow procedures to streamline the rover development process and enhance efficiency as we approach major prototype demonstration tests.

Take charge in making responsible design decisions that fall in line with actual mission requirements.
