Position Overview
This role combines strategic leadership with deep technical contribution across genomics and computational biology initiatives.
You'll lead a team of skilled bioinformatics scientists and engineers, while remaining actively involved in high-impact technical work. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in bioinformatics, a collaborative leadership style, and a commitment to scientific rigor.
Key Responsibilities
Manage, coach, and develop a small team of independent contributors through regular 1:1s, mentorship, and performance feedback
Serve as the lead technical contributor on complex genomics and bioinformatics projects
Support the team through code reviews, strategy input, and technical problem-solving
Develop and refine custom pipelines, tools, and methods for a variety of genomics applications
Maintain expertise in evolving technologies and computational methods
Lead internal team operations, including planning, capacity tracking, and coordination of technical resources
Contribute to hiring efforts and technical evaluations of new team members
Collaborate cross-functionally within the organization to align technical output with broader priorities
What You Bring
Masters degree or PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or a related fieldor equivalent hands-on experience
Proven track record of managing technical teams and delivering complex bioinformatics projects
Advanced proficiency in Python (additional experience in R, Rust, or similar languages is a plus)
Experience with NGS data processing, analysis pipelines (e.g., Nextflow, Snakemake), and standard file formats (e.g., BAM, VCF)
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex scientific and technical concepts
High standards of scientific and technical excellence with a collaborative, growth-oriented mindset
Compensation & Benefits
Total compensation range: $225,000 to $255,000 plus bonus and equity
401(k) with 15% employer contribution (no match required)
