Position Summary:
The Safety Manager will oversee and direct the mill's Occupational Health and Security and Safety initiatives to ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and corporate Health & Safety standards. This individual will assess and analyze the mill's performance based on key metrics, guaranteeing adherence to health and safety legislation while fulfilling the company's safety program objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- You will oversee the Health & Safety program of the mill
- You will serve as the Process Safety Management Coordinator
- You will manage Health Services, Fire Protection, and Emergency Response activities
- You will develop, implement, and maintain effective systems, procedures, and training to achieve an injury-free work environment
- You will prioritize actions that minimize Significant Injury & Fatality potential events. Ensure the team has a focus on these actions over all others.
- You will manage multiple area Hourly Safety Coordinators that support the culture of knowing how work is getting done and building safety programs with a Human Organizational Performance (HOP) mentality in mind.
- You will build a culture of completing Drift Assessments across the mill to proactively identify and improve how we complete tasks.
- You will oversee investigations for near misses and injuries, ensuring the mill team digs into root causes with a 5-why methodology.
- You will identify trends, emerging issues, and develop improvement strategies to solve issues
- You will establish preventative health and safety programs to identify and reduce risk from potential hazards in the workplace
- You will coordinate Industrial Hygiene Monitoring activities for noise and chemical exposure
- You will integrate continuous improvements in the health and safety systems and drive employee engagement to achieve desired results
- You will maintain compliance with OSHA logs and requirements
- You must have excellent knowledge and understanding of mill operations
- You will work with corporate H&S Staff to develop and implement the company's Global Performance Standards
- You will identify and implement deliberate and continuous improvement activities to manage and reduce risk
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in occupational health and safety or technical discipline with significant related experience and exposure to OSHA general industry requirements
- Must have 5 to 10 years of Occupational Health and Safety experience in the pulp/paper industry
- Must have At least 2 years of experience in a Global Paper facility preferred
- Expertise in Process Safety Management (PSM) is considered a plus
- CSP and/or CIH certification considered a plus
