Principal Software Engineer - Node.Js

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Principal Software Engineer (Node.js IoT Focus) to lead the design and development of scalable IoT backend systems at TekHQS.
This role requires deep expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, and Nest.js, along with strong hands-on experience in IoT data pipelines, real-time communication, and device-cloud integrations.

You'll play a key role in shaping the architecture that connects millions of IoT devices, ensuring reliability, low latency, and performance across distributed systems.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in microservices, MQTT, WebSockets, and edge-to-cloud communication, as well as experience with cloud platforms like AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub, or Google Cloud IoT Core.

Responsibilities

• Lead backend architecture and system design for large-scale IoT applications using Node.js and related frameworks.

• Build and optimize APIs, data streams, and real-time communication channels between devices and cloud infrastructure.

• Design scalable, fault-tolerant microservices for IoT data ingestion, processing, and analytics.

• Collaborate with IoT firmware, DevOps, and frontend teams to ensure seamless device connectivity and user experience.

• Implement data caching, queuing, and synchronization strategies using Redis, MQTT, or Kafka.

• Ensure robust security protocols for device authentication, data encryption, and API access control.

• Provide technical mentorship, review code, and enforce engineering best practices across the team.

• Drive innovation by exploring emerging IoT technologies and recommending architectural improvements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend development experience using Node.js and TypeScript.

• Advanced proficiency with Nest.js framework and modern backend design principles.

• Strong understanding of IoT communication protocols (MQTT, WebSockets, HTTP/REST, CoAP).

• Proven experience building microservices and distributed backend systems.

• Hands-on experience with MongoDB, Redis, and message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AWS SNS/SQS).

• Practical exposure to IoT platforms such as AWS IoT Core, Azure IoT Hub, or Google Cloud IoT.

• Understanding of device management, telemetry, and over-the-air (OTA) updates.

• Familiarity with edge computing and real-time data processing pipelines.

• Proficient in Git and modern CI/CD practices.

• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and leadership skills.
