Job Summary:
- The Pipefitter fabricates, prepares, and fits piping components under the direction of the Lead Pipefitter. The role demands confident, safe use of angle grinders and preparation tools, sound knowledge of piping materials, and the ability to produce clean, accurate joints ready for welding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cut, bevel, and grind pipe ends and fittings to the required weld preparation using angle grinders and associated power tools.
- Fit up pipes, fittings, and flanges to the tolerances set by the Lead Pipefitter, maintaining correct root gap and alignment.
- Correctly identify piping materials, fittings, gaskets, and bolting; handle each material grade according to project requirements.
- Apply stainless steel contamination controls: dedicated grinding discs and brushes, separate storage, and protected surfaces.
- Measure, mark, and check spool dimensions during fabrication; flag any deviation before welding.
- Support welders during welding: tacking assistance, repositioning, clamping, and joint protection.
- Report defects, material shortages, and drawing questions to the Lead Pipefitter without delay.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of pipefitting experience in industrial fabrication or construction.
- Demonstrated safe and competent use of angle grinders; abrasive wheel training is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of piping materials, fitting types, flange classes, and pipe schedules.
- Able to read basic isometric and fabrication drawings.
- Aware of the handling and segregation rules for stainless steel work.
- Valid site safety training; physically fit for heavy manual work.
