Painting Quality Control Inspector(GSU)
About the job Painting Quality Control Inspector(GSU)
Job Summary:
- The Painting Inspector controls all surface preparation and coating activities on the project, verifying that blasting, painting, and repair work conform to the approved coating specification, manufacturer data sheets, and applicable standards. The role covers inspection from surface preparation through final DFT acceptance, with full documentation of environmental conditions and test results at every stage.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect surface preparation for cleanliness and profile against the specified standard (ISO 8501 / SSPC grades) before coating release.
- Measure and record environmental conditions — air and steel temperature, relative humidity, dew point — and stop work when limits are exceeded.
- Verify coating materials on receipt: batch numbers, shelf life, storage conditions, and conformance to the approved product data sheets.
- Witness mixing, thinning, and application; confirm induction times, pot life, wet film thickness, and overcoating intervals per the manufacturer's data sheet.
- Measure dry film thickness (DFT) per coat and total system; carry out adhesion, holiday, and other specified tests.
- Inspect and release coating repairs, weld touch-ups, and damage rectification.
- Record all inspections in daily coating reports; maintain traceability between coated items and inspection records.
- Raise NCRs for non-conforming preparation or application and follow corrective actions to closure.
- Coordinate hold and witness points with client and third-party representatives for coating activities.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Valid NACE CIP Level 2 (or BGAS-CSWIP Grade 2 / FROSIO Level III) coating inspector certification.
- Minimum 5 years of coating inspection experience on oil & gas fabrication or construction projects.
- Thorough knowledge of surface preparation standards (ISO 8501, ISO 8503) and coating test methods (ISO 19840, ASTM D4541 or equivalents).
- Hands-on competence with inspection instruments: DFT gauges, dew point meters, profile gauges, adhesion and holiday testers.
- Experienced in reading coating specifications and manufacturer data sheets and enforcing them at the workface.
