Our client is seeking a Senior Research Analyst, for a remote, contract or full-time opportunity. 

Description

This will be a contingent hire for a contract with SAMHSA expected to start in April 2022. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) requires program and analytical support services, short term analyses, technical assistance, and support for its information and related programs.

Responsibilities

  • Apply best practices in assessing policy issues and current trends related to mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Develop clear statements of the issue and/or a new hypothesis and concepts in planning, conducting, and evaluating long-term projects and proposals for the solution of complex public policy questions; compile qualitative and quantitative data, available analyses, available policy/mission statements including but not limited to civil rights, language and discrimination policy, referral policies, health insurance policies, and other federal policies, and other relevant information; and prepare an analysis of policy/program alternatives, together with the pros and cons of each and a statement of their likely future success.
  • Compile qualitative and quantitative data, preparing analyses, conduct systematic review of literature (environmental scans) and identify policy/program alternatives, in collaboration with policy analysts and other analysts.
  • Create, manipulate, and analyze data sets of varying size and complexity, and use appropriate methods/procedures to conduct and report analyses.
  • Prepare analyses and recommendations including but not limited to forecasts of current trends or likely future scenarios, policy issues, demographic characteristics and population projections, financial and service projections, and projections about service outcomes and system performance indicators.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of public health frameworks that may impact or support mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Apply a deep understanding of social determinants of health and other factors impacting mental health disorders and interventions.
  • May develop innovative methodologies and implement strategies to track emerging public health trends and priorities via social media analytics.
  • May conduct data quality reviews, data analysis, create reports, perform survey programming and instrument development.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years overall related experience including a minimum of 2 years in mental health and/or substance use disorders.
  • Public health experience at state, tribal, local, territorial, or federal level is required.
  • Experience using NVivo or other qualitative software/tools is required.
  • General understanding of relational databases and programming for reporting purposes.
  • Strong background in social science research, biostatistics, health services research, epidemiology, or a related discipline is required.
  • Significant experience with data science tools or models preferred.
  • Experience in the AWS platform is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to react quickly and effectively to needs and priorities.
  • Demonstration of an inquisitive research approach.
  • Must demonstrate honesty, integrity, and appreciation of differing opinions and perspectives, and must be responsible, accountable, and collaborative.
