Description

The Director, Business Development - Federal Government will lead growth and development of the Federal Employee audience by leveraging a deep understanding of the target market to develop successful partner relationships and enable marketing to federal government end users. The candidate will drive new customer acquisition through the cultivation of strategically selected targets, market contacts, and affiliate partners, effectively promoting the company program and targeting the appropriate audiences. Once viable targets are identified, the position will lead collaboration cross-functionally to enable sales.

Responsibilities

  • Generate new business and be accountable for new sales within the target market, U.S. Federal Government.
  • Identify, vet, and prioritize business opportunities, organizing and developing relationships and leading the new business capture process for the target market.
  • Develop strategic prospect plans, develop new business pursuits, support follow-on sales, participate in interface activities such as conferences and events to foster relationships, and prepare and give targeted sales presentations.
  • Determine external contacts within target organizations to cultivate relationships with to win new business.
  • Make recommendations as to what prospects to pursue based on target market needs.
  • Manage all aspects of sales capture process, no direct reports or subordinates.
  • Initiate, maintain, and cultivate strategic relationships relative to the target market.
  • Partner with management and colleague to coordinate prospect interface activities to ensure sales efforts are carried out to execute the strategic account plans leading to new contracts: this includes prospect-focused presentations, attending conferences and special events to foster relationships.
  • Network with market and industry leaders to build relationships to facilitate expanded business development opportunities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, opportunities, channels, and competitors to support business development opportunities.
  • Update and track prospects and key metrics.
  • Assess future growth opportunities aligned with the growth strategy.
  • Enable and provide clear and concise communications on strategic topics to senior leadership and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Marketing, Business Development or relevant related business field.
  • 7-10 years of experience in Business, Market, or Partnership development.
  • Comfortable using collaboration and CRM tools (Salesforce).
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
  • Must be a strategic thinker and have proven experience in identifying new business opportunities, dissecting complex problems, and communicating with senior management.
  • Thorough knowledge of market penetration and development techniques.
  • Ability to interface with diverse personalities and promote teamwork.
  • Multi-tasking ability (prioritize, organize, schedule work).
  • Highly motivated self-starter, action oriented, and results driven.
  • Excellent customer service and client focus skills.
  • Shows strength, strong decision-making skills, and success in the face of ambiguity or obstacles.
  • Innovative and strategic in sales and client relationship building.

  • Previous proven external, customer sales success to U.S. Federal Government clients.
