About the Heritage Collaborative
Indias heritage conservation sector holds immense potentialnot just for preserving cultural identity, but also for catalysing local economic development and sustainable tourism. Yet, conservation efforts remain fragmented, underfunded, and disconnected from broader policy and development priorities. The Heritage Collaborative is a new field-building initiative incubated by Aikyam Foundation. It aims to strengthen the heritage conservation ecosystem in India through systems-level interventions across policy advocacy, funding mobilisation, and knowledge-building. In its first phase, the Collaborative is focused on landscape mapping, stakeholder consultations, and developing a strategic roadmap for the sector.
Role Summary
We are seeking a Consultant to lead and support the early-stage development of the
Heritage Collaborative. The Consultant will play a central role in stakeholder research,
sectoral analysis, knowledge synthesis, and strategic planning.
This is a unique opportunity to help shape an ambitious platform from the ground up,
working closely with ecosystem leaders, philanthropic partners, and government
stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Sector Research & Consultations
- Conduct in-depth interviews with 2025 key stakeholders including
conservation experts, funders, institutions, and government representatives - Identify gaps, bottlenecks, and opportunities across the heritage conservation
ecosystem
Report Development
- Lead the production of a State of the Sector report, including research,
structuring, and drafting - Curate case studies, policy summaries, and funding landscape analyses
Strategic Planning
- Support the development of a vision and operational roadmap for the
Heritage Collaborative - Help shape core focus areas such as policy advocacy, fund mobilisation, and ecosystem-building
Project Coordination
- Coordinate meetings, convenings, and follow-ups with key stakeholders
- Liaise with research partners, designers, and editors as needed
Desired Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience in consulting, strategy, policy, or field-building roles in the
social impact or cultural sectors - Strong research and analytical skills, with experience in conducting qualitative
interviews and synthesising insights - Excellent written communication skills, with experience developing reports, memos, or strategy documents for external audiences
- Demonstrated interest in heritage, culture, or public policy
- Ability to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Preferred (but not Necessary) Qualifications
- Background in architecture, history, urban development, or cultural policy
- Prior experience engaging with government institutions, funders, or nonprofits
Familiarity with ecosystem-building or intermediary models in India or globally - Background in research
