Basic Information
Role Title: HR Consultant
Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka
Reporting: Programme Director
Nature: Contractual (4 months)
Purpose of the job
Broad objective
- To design and establish a comprehensive HR framework for the
organisation, including policies, processes, and systems that support
a high-performing team. The consultant will audit existing practices,
develop foundational HR documentation, and ensure compliance
with applicable labour laws.

Dimensions ( Key Responsibilities, Areas and Time Allocation)
HR Audit & Gap Analysis (15%)
- Conduct a comprehensive review of existing HR documentation, policies, and practices to identify gaps in compliance and effectiveness. Develop a structured action plan to address identified gaps and strengthen the HR framework.
Policy Development (30%)
- Draft, refine, and finalise core HR policies, including recruitment, onboarding, leave management, grievance redressal, performance evaluation, and exit processes, ensuring clarity, consistency, and organisational alignment.
HR Systems & Processes (25%)
- Design and standardise operating procedures (SOPs) for key HR workflows. Support the implementation of an HR management system to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
Compliance & Legal Alignment (15%)
- Ensure that all HR policies and practices are fully compliant with applicable Indian labour laws and regulatory requirements.
Team Capacity Building (15%)
- Facilitate orientation and training sessions for staff on newly implemented policies. Strengthen internal HR and administrative capabilities to ensure the sustainability of systems and processes beyond the engagement.
Education and Experience Guidelines
Educational Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Organisational Development, Business Administration, or a related field.
Core Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Human Resources. Prior exposure to nonprofits, social sector organisations, or mission-driven institutions is strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to design and implement HR frameworks from the ground up independently.
Key Competencies
- Strong understanding of Indian labour laws and HR compliance requirements. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, concise, and accessible policy documents. Proven capability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously and deliver high-quality outputs within defined timelines.
