Core Responsibilities
- Assess, treat, and monitor patients with breathing disorders and cardiopulmonary conditions across multiple care settings
- Administer oxygen therapy, aerosol medications, and other prescribed respiratory treatments accurately and safely
- Perform and interpret pulmonary function tests, arterial blood gas analyses, and ventilator management procedures
- Initiate and manage mechanical ventilation for critically ill patients in intensive care units
- Respond promptly to emergency situations including cardiopulmonary resuscitation and rapid response events
- Educate patients and their families on respiratory conditions, treatment plans, and proper use of home respiratory equipment
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary care teams to develop and adjust individualized patient care plans
- Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely documentation of all patient assessments and treatments in the electronic health record system
- Inspect, clean, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment in accordance with established safety and infection control protocols
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives and continuing education programs
Must-Have Requirements
- Active Registered Respiratory Therapist credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care
- Valid Iowa Respiratory Care license or eligibility to obtain licensure prior to start date
- Minimum of one year of clinical respiratory therapy experience in an acute care or hospital setting
- Demonstrated proficiency with mechanical ventilators and critical care respiratory interventions
- Strong knowledge of arterial blood gas interpretation and pulmonary function testing procedures
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the department
- BLS and ACLS certification required; additional specialty certifications are considered a strong advantage
