Job Description:
Our client is seeking an experienced zOS Systems Programmer to join their team. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the management, upgrade, and support of IBM zOS Mainframe systems. The candidate will leverage their expertise in mainframe operating systems to perform system upgrades, resolve issues, and provide support to both users and team members. This hybrid role is based in Boulder, Colorado, with occasional onsite requirements, though remote work may be considered for the right candidate. The position may be part-time (24 hours per week) or full-time, depending on the candidate's qualifications and preferences.
Key Responsibilities:

Maintain and upgrade the zOS Operating System to ensure system performance and reliability.

Provide expert technical support to users and assist with system-related issues.

Manage zOS tasks including catalog management, ISPF/SDSF, RACF, JES parameters, SYS1.PROCLIB, and more.

Administer zOS SYSPLEX, dataset/storage/disk/tape management, backup/restore processes, and system logging.

Debug and resolve complex mainframe operating system issues across different zOS versions.

Participate in weekend/off-shift maintenance as needed.

Collaborate with a small team of technical experts to support various development and operational needs.
Must Haves/Requirements Summary:

Education: Bachelor's degree (preferred) or equivalent zOS experience (5-7 years).

Experience and Technical Skills:
-
Proven experience in zOS system software programming.

Familiarity with FICON/ESCON connectivity, DASD architecture, cryptographic coprocessors, and virtual tape libraries.

Proficiency in managing zOS tasks such as catalog management, ISPF/SDSF, RACF, JES parameters, and SYS1.PROCLIB.

Ability to administer zOS SYSPLEX, dataset management, backup/restore, and system logging tools.

Experience troubleshooting mainframe OS software issues across various zOS levels.

RACF administration skills, including managing Userids, User Groups, KeyRings, and resources.

Hands-on experience with IBM Software Installations using zOSMF, CBPDO.

Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with VTAM, TCPIP, OSA, Virtual Interfaces, HiperSockets, VSWITCH, zVM, and zCX.

System operator experience and familiarity with Linux on z Systems.

Expertise in DS8000 Disk Subsystem, FlashCopy, and Tape Libraries.

Knowledge of DFSMS Administration and ACS Routine modifications.
