Core Responsibilities
- Assess, treat, and monitor patients with breathing disorders and cardiopulmonary conditions across various care settings
- Administer oxygen therapy, aerosol medications, and breathing treatments as directed by physician orders
- Perform diagnostic testing including pulmonary function tests, arterial blood gas analysis, and bronchial hygiene procedures
- Operate and manage mechanical ventilators for critically ill patients in intensive care units
- Educate patients and their families on respiratory conditions, treatment plans, and self-management techniques
- Respond promptly to respiratory emergencies and participate in code response teams
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation within electronic health record systems
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and revise individualized patient care plans
- Inspect, clean, and ensure proper functioning of respiratory therapy equipment
Must-Have Requirements
- Current licensure as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of Iowa
- Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program
- Registered Respiratory Therapist credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care preferred
- Minimum of one year of clinical experience in an acute care or hospital setting
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical ventilation and critical care respiratory procedures
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a genuine commitment to patient-centered care
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in fast-paced clinical environments
- Basic Life Support certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as required
