Core Responsibilities
As an Emergency Room Registered Nurse, you will provide direct patient care in a high-acuity environment, managing multiple patients simultaneously while maintaining exceptional standards of care. Your primary responsibilities include performing comprehensive patient assessments, establishing and maintaining intravenous lines, administering medications and treatments per physician orders, and monitoring vital signs and patient responses to interventions. You will triage patients, prioritize care based on acuity levels, and collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
You will document patient encounters accurately and thoroughly in electronic health records, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and facility protocols. Your role includes responding to emergency situations, assisting with emergency procedures, and providing emotional support to patients and families during stressful medical events. You will educate patients and families regarding their conditions, treatments, and follow-up care instructions while demonstrating cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse backgrounds.
Additionally, you will maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring proper infection control practices and equipment sterilization. You will participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities to enhance clinical skills and knowledge. The position requires flexibility to adapt to changing patient census, acuity levels, and departmental needs while upholding the highest standards of professional nursing practice.
Must-Have Requirements
Candidates must hold a current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa or possess a valid compact license allowing practice in Iowa. A minimum of two years of emergency department nursing experience is required, demonstrating proficiency in acute care settings and trauma management. You must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is strongly preferred and may be required by the facility.
Candidates must reside at least 60 miles from Clinton, as this position is exclusively for travel healthcare professionals. You should demonstrate strong clinical assessment skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to remain calm and focused under pressure. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move patients safely, and perform repetitive motions. You must be comfortable working evening and night shifts (19:00-07:30) within a 3-day, 12-hour schedule structure.
The ideal candidate demonstrates adaptability, teamwork, cultural competency, and a genuine commitment to patient-centered care. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize competing demands are essential. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required for commuting to the Clinton facility.
