COMPANY DESCRIPTION:
Our client is an electronic communications manufacturer and supplier based in Edenvale and they are looking for an Electronic Technician to join their development team as soon as possible.
JOB DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist and advise customers telephonically regarding technical matters, correct installation procedures / methods, equipment features and operation.
- 2Log, record, report and follow up support calls.
- Monitor and report on the company's various communications infrastructures.
- Field repairs, maintenance and installation of radio equipment / systems (base stations / repeaters) whilst adhering to correct procedures and quality standards.
- Travel when necessary to both National and International customers.
- Report directly to the Technical Manager and assist technical staff when required.
- Assist where necessary with the general everyday requirements of the Technical department.
- Assist Sales and Marketing Department with customer visits, exhibition stands etc.
- Share after hours standby support responsibilities with the company's other technical staff.
- Always uphold the professional image of the Company.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Matric
- A B-Tech and related qualifications would be advantageous
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- South African based security industry knowledge
- Know the products used in the industry, understand the fundamentals of electronics with the ability to repair and maintain electronic products, have a good general technical ability and good computer skills
- Must be service oriented and have a consistently friendly and helpful demeanour
- Electronic skills: Must have knowledge of the fundamentals of electronics. Must be capable to do fault finding and preferably be able to repair and/or maintain electronic products.
- Industry related skills: Intimate knowledge of alarm installations and alarm control panels. Good knowledge of security control room operations and monitoring
- software. Good understanding of alarm communication systems and infrastructure.
- Computer skills: General MS Office skills. Good Excel skills. Basic networking skills.
- Good general technical knowledge.
- A diligent person with good administrative, record keeping and reporting skills. A person who does not enjoy admin and paperwork will not be suitable.
HIGHLY ADVANTAGEOUS SKILLS BUT NOT A REQUIREMENT
- General RF knowledge and experience.
- VHF repeater network experience.
- GSM based communication knowledge and experience.
- Knowledge of SIM cards and cellular networks.
- Advanced networking experience.
- Knowledge and experience of server and database systems.
