Legal Counsel (Intellectual Property & Commercial Law) – Johannesburg  R55 000 to R60 000 CTC

Counsel to lead intellectual property strategy, commercial contracting, and regulatory compliance across the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and protect the organisation's IP portfolio (patents, designs, trademarks) across its full lifecycle
• Provide strategic legal input on technical and innovation-driven projects
• Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial contracts
• Develop and implement legal strategies, policies, and compliance frameworks
• Monitor regulatory developments and manage legal risk
• Oversee legal governance and guide senior stakeholders

Key Requirements

• LLB degree (required)
• Minimum 8 years of experience in IP law (patents & designs), commercial contracts, and regulatory compliance
• Strong knowledge of litigation processes
• Engineering qualification (electrical/electronic) is advantageous
• Proven strategic, analytical, and leadership capability
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and drafting skills
