Location: Durbanville Hills, Cape Town
Company: Our client, a leading supplier to the building industry

Salary R40 000 - 60 000 pm neg

Our client is a dynamic and energetic group servicing the construction sector with aggregates, readymix concrete, and precast concrete elements such as hollowcore slabs and stair units. Their head office is located just outside Durbanville.

They are currently seeking a Quality (Technical) Manager to lead their internal, non-accredited laboratory team. This position reports directly to the General Manager and plays a key role in quality assurance and process control across their operations.

Key Responsibilities

Quality & Process Control

  • Oversee daily concrete cube testing and aggregate grading
  • Perform statistical analysis of test results and adjust processes based on historical data trends
  • Monitor moisture content, slump consistency, and water demand
  • Manage mix designs within the batching system, analyze performance, and provide regular feedback
  • Design concrete mixes for specialized project specifications as needed
  • Investigate and resolve all non-conformance issues with follow-up actions and closures
  • Continuously develop and refine quality control methods and procedures
  • Oversee raw material selection, quality monitoring, and supplier management
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives and track efficiency improvements

Stakeholder Management

  • Liaise with two internal aggregate quarries, providing feedback on materials tested
  • Assist the sales team with customer queries regarding product quality, pricing, test results, and mix designs
  • Ensure optimum performance and strength consistency across five readymix plants, making mix adjustments where necessary

General Laboratory Oversight

  • Compile weekly and monthly statistical reports for internal meetings
  • Maintain and service all laboratory equipment
  • Oversee the regular calibration and performance of weighing scales and lab instruments

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric certificate plus a relevant qualification from the School of Concrete Technology (SCT) or similar
  • Strong technical knowledge of aggregates and concrete
  • At least 5 years of experience in a technical/quality control role within the construction materials industry
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven team leadership and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong reporting, data analysis, and documentation skills

  • Working Hours: 07:00 17:00 (MonThu), 07:00 15:00 (Fridays)
