About the Role

As a Welding Engineer, youll be the technical authority for welding and mechanical design across boiler and boiler-related systems. Youll lead the design, execution, and analysis of welding solutions, support maintenance teams, and drive high-impact investigations and innovation to ensure engineering integrity, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Minimum Requirements

  • Honours Degree in Engineering (BSc, BEng, or BEng Tech) with specialization in Welding

  • IIW International Welding Engineer/Technologist (IWE/IWT) Certification (required)

  • ECSA Professional Engineer registration (preferred)

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in a heavy engineering or energy-focused environment

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage mechanical and welding design for boiler systems and related equipment

  • Ensure compliance with engineering codes, standards, and project specifications

  • Plan and oversee engineering projects monitoring timelines, budgets, and deliverables

  • Create and update technical documentation and drawings aligned with latest designs and investigations

  • Conduct failure investigations and maintenance reviews to support reliability and root cause analysis

  • Develop, qualify, and maintain welding procedures per regulatory and company standards

  • Provide technical mentorship and training to junior engineers and technical teams

  • Hold client meetings and technical discussions to review progress and solutions

  • Collaborate across departments and maintain clear, proactive communication throughout project lifecycles

  • Support tender processes, including technical document preparation and scope estimation

  • Perform site visits as required to assess equipment, supervise work, and support field teams

  • Stay current with advancements in welding technologies, metallurgy, NDT methods, and fabrication techniques

What You Know

  • Advanced knowledge of boiler systems, pressure equipment, and structural design principles

  • Deep understanding of welding processes, metallurgy, fabrication engineering, and international standards

  • Familiarity with OHS Act, SANS 347, and Pressure Equipment Regulations

  • Proficient in non-destructive testing (NDT) methods and their practical application

  • Experience with engineering tools such as Autodesk Inventor, PV Elite, and CAESAR II

  • Strong project management and technical report-writing capabilities

  • Effective communicator who thrives in cross-functional teams and client-facing environments
