My client is a family-owned food distribution company, established in 2009, specializes in supplying high-quality food products and related services to the hospitality and catering sectors in the Western Cape. With a commitment to outstanding client support and efficient delivery services, the company offers a diverse range of products, including groceries, frozen foods, perishables, hygiene products, and packaging solutions.

Role Summary: The Buyer will be responsible for sourcing and procuring food products and related items to meet the needs of our hospitality and catering clients. This role involves building and maintaining relationships with suppliers, negotiating favorable terms, and ensuring the timely availability of quality products. The ideal candidate will have a keen understanding of the food distribution industry and possess strong negotiation and analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Sourcing: Identify and evaluate potential suppliers to ensure a diverse and reliable supply chain.
  • Negotiation: Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers to secure the best deals.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels to prevent shortages or overstock situations.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all procured products meet the company's quality standards and comply with food safety regulations.
  • Market Analysis: Stay informed about market trends, seasonal product availability, and pricing fluctuations to make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Supplier Relations: Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and new suppliers.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the sales and logistics teams to forecast demand and coordinate timely deliveries.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Educational Qualifications: Diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience in a purchasing role within the food distribution or hospitality industry.
