The Role: Operations Manager
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing end-to-end factory operations to ensure the efficient, timely, and high-quality production of timber prefab buildings. You'll oversee production planning, team performance, and continuous improvement across all phases of the manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and manage daily and weekly production schedules aligned to project timelines

Allocate labour and resources effectively across design, CNC cutting, assembly, and logistics

Oversee factory operations including robotics, CNC machines, and manual stations

Implement lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve throughput

Monitor production metrics, machine performance, and workflow bottlenecks

Enforce quality control processes to meet structural and compliance standards (SANS)

Ensure health and safety regulations are maintained across all operations

Lead and develop factory supervisors, artisans, and staff

Coordinate material inventory and supply chain to avoid shortages and control costs

Manage inbound and outbound logistics of prefabricated components

Report on production output, downtime, and labour efficiency

Contribute to strategic planning on capacity, equipment, and process improvements
About You
-
5+ years experience in a production or operations management role

Industry background in timber, modular, or prefab construction preferred

Skilled in CNC machining, timber fabrication, and lean manufacturing methods

Experience with scheduling tools, production software, and inventory systems

Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills

Knowledge of industry standards (e.g. SANS, ISO 9001)

Diploma or Degree in Production Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field

Practical, solutions-focused, and comfortable working both on the floor and in strategic discussions
