R 60 000 -66 000 pm
About the Role
We're seeking a Learning Design Manager to lead the end-to-end design and delivery of high-quality digital learning micro-lessons, certificates, and full programs, while managing external development vendors when project size requires it and partnering with senior stakeholders.
You'll blend instructional design craft with product-level thinking, ensuring our training is pedagogically sound, accessible, measurable, and delivered on time. You'll also represent Learning/Product in leadership forums, making evidence-based recommendations tied to business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
-
Own the learning design lifecycle: conduct needs analysis, define objectives, blueprint, prototype, build, QA, launch, and iterate digital courses (microlearning, self-paced modules, blended paths). Collaborate with operations and other business units.
-
Lead and coach development partners: manage external instructional/learning experience designers as needed. Set standards, review and create storyboards, design and develop SCORM microlessons, and lead design critiques. Maintain templates and QA checklists.
-
Collaborate with SMEs: translate complex topics into clear, scenario-based learning using case studies, decision trees, and job aids.
-
Deliver to specification and schedule: plan sprints, manage scope and risks, and meet agreed deadlines and quality standards across multiple concurrent projects.
-
Ensure interoperability and accessibility: publish in SCORM 1.2/2004 and xAPI/cmi5 formats; meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards; validate in target LMS environments.
-
Measure and improve: define and track success metrics (completion, time-to-competence, assessment performance, job impact). Use LMS/LRS data to drive iteration and improvement.
-
Communicate with stakeholders: present roadmaps, project status, and outcomes to senior leaders. Align learning deliverables with broader product and market objectives.
Requirements
-
5-8+ years of experience in instructional or learning design, with a strong record of building SCORM and xAPI content in tools such as Articulate 360 (Rise/Storyline), Camtasia, Captivate, or dominKnow.
-
Strong visual and UX design instincts for learning experiences.
-
Hands-on build capabilities (rapid prototyping, media briefs, light editing) and experience mentoring or managing vendor-based designers.
-
Solid understanding of learning science principles (adult learning, practice and feedback, retrieval, spacing) and assessment design (item writing, rubrics, mastery criteria).
-
Familiarity with LMS features (learning paths, certifications, reporting) and ability to interpret analytics/LRS dashboards for data-driven improvement.
-
Excellent communicator able to present to senior leadership, influence decisions, and connect learning outcomes to business results.
-
Experience conducting customer interviews and research to inform future product roadmaps.
Nice to Have
-
Experience in professional education or regulated industries such as governance, compliance, financial services, or healthcare.
-
Familiarity with LXPs, adaptive learning, and AI-assisted content development workflows.
-
ATD APTD/CPTD certification or completion of a recognized instructional design certificate; a relevant Master's degree (ID/LXD/EdTech) is a plus.
