Tool and Die Maker | East Lansing, MI

Salary Range: $60,000 - $95,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

We partner with manufacturers across East Lansing seeking Tool and Die Makers who want more than a lateral move. These companies hire intentionally, and we connect them with professionals ready for roles that fit.

Key Responsibilities

• Fabricate, repair, and maintain precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
• Operate and set up conventional and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, and grinders.
• Interpret complex blueprints, sketches, and 3D CAD models to determine specifications.
• Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot tooling issues to minimize downtime.
• Inspect finished tools and dies for accuracy and quality using precision measuring instruments.
• Select appropriate materials and heat treatment processes for tool construction.
• Collaborate with engineers and production teams to design and modify tooling for improved efficiency.

Recommended Qualifications

• Completed apprenticeship or 5+ years of relevant experience in tool and die making.
• Proficiency in operating manual and CNC machine tools (mills, lathes, grinders, EDMs).
• Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and GD&T.
• Expertise in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges, CMMs).
• Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for tooling and production issues.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with CNC machining and programming
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or other CAD software
• Knowledge of heat treatment processes
• Experience with EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining)
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles
