Supplier Quality Engineer | Otsego, MI

Salary Range: $79,000 - $112,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement quality plans for new and existing suppliers.
  • Conduct supplier audits to assess compliance with quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Monitor supplier performance through data analysis and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers to reduce defects and improve product quality.
  • Manage and resolve supplier-related quality issues, including non-conformances and corrective actions.
  • Qualify new suppliers and components through rigorous evaluation processes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., R&D, manufacturing, procurement) to ensure supplier readiness and product quality.
  • Review and approve supplier documentation, such as First Article Inspection (FAI) reports.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial) or a related technical field.
  • Proven experience in supplier quality management, auditing, and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949) and relevant industry standards.
  • Proficiency in statistical process control (SPC), root cause analysis tools (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys), and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills for effective supplier interaction and collaboration.
  • Experience with supplier development, performance monitoring, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Bonus Qualifications

  • - Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and tools.
  • - Familiarity with Six Sigma methodologies (Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus).
  • - Proven ability to mentor and train suppliers on quality improvement initiatives.
  • - Experience with data analysis software beyond basic Excel (e.g., Minitab, JMP).
  • - Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) software implementation and management.
