Environmental Health & Safety Specialist | East Lansing, MI

Salary Range: $64,000 - $97,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
• Conduct regular EHS inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
• Develop, deliver, and track EHS training programs for all employees.
• Lead incident investigations for accidents, near misses, and environmental excursions, recommending corrective actions.
• Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams, ensuring proper disposal and documentation.
• Develop and implement site-specific EHS programs, policies, and procedures.
• Prepare and submit required EHS reports to regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related scientific field.
• 3+ years of progressive EHS experience within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant federal, state, and local EHS regulations and standards.
• Demonstrated experience in conducting risk assessments, developing safety programs, and leading incident investigations.
• Proficiency in delivering EHS training, implementing corrective actions, and maintaining EHS management systems.

Bonus Qualifications

• Professional EHS certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM).
• Experience utilizing EHS management software platforms.
• Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodology experience.
• Experience conducting internal or external EHS audits.
• Prior involvement with an Emergency Response Team (ERT).
