Salary Range: $63,000 - $98,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

We are partnering with organizations in Byron Center that are seeking Tool and Die Makers. Key Responsibilities

• Designs and builds dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures.
• Operates a variety of machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM machines.
• Interprets blueprints, schematics, and engineering specifications.
• Troubleshoots and repairs existing tooling and dies.
• Performs precision measuring using instruments like micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
• Collaborates with engineers and production staff to optimize tooling designs.
• Selects appropriate materials and heat treatments for tool longevity.
• Maintains a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols.

Recommended Qualifications

• Completion of a formal apprenticeship program in Tool and Die Making or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in the setup, operation, and maintenance of manual and CNC machining equipment
• Proficient in interpreting blueprints, schews, and engineering specifications
• Strong knowledge of metallurgy, heat treatment processes, and material properties
• Experience with precision measurement tools and inspection techniques
• Ability to design, build, and repair complex dies, molds, jigs, and fixtures

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Mastercam)
• Proficiency in operating and programming CNC machinery
• Certification in a related field (e.g., machining, metallurgy, mechanical engineering)
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and train junior tool and die makers
• Experience with precision measurement tools and techniques (e.g., CMM, optical comparators)
