Salary Range: $55,000 - $87,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

We partner with manufacturers across Allegan seeking Tool Makers who want more than a lateral move. These companies hire intentionally, and we connect them with professionals ready for roles that fit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, fabricate, and repair a variety of precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Operate conventional and CNC machining equipment (e.g., mills, lathes, grinders, EDM) to create and modify tooling components.
  • Interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and CAD models to determine tool specifications and manufacturing processes.
  • Perform precision measurements using a range of metrology instruments to ensure tools meet exact dimensional and tolerance requirements.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot tooling malfunctions, implementing effective repairs and modifications to optimize production efficiency.
  • Select appropriate materials and heat treatments for tooling applications based on functional requirements and material properties.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to develop new tooling solutions and improve existing manufacturing processes.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Proficiency in precision machining techniques (manual and CNC milling, turning, grinding, EDM).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Expertise in the use of precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges, CMM).
  • Demonstrated experience in the repair, maintenance, and fabrication of various tooling, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Thorough understanding of various tool steels, carbides, and other materials, including heat treatment processes.
  • Completion of a recognized Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on experience.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam)
  • Experience in fixture and jig design
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles or continuous improvement methodologies
  • Experience with advanced metrology equipment (e.g., CMM, vision systems)
