Salary Range: $54,000 - $86,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

We are partnering with organizations in Charlotte that are seeking Tool Makers. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, fabricate, and repair precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and engineering specifications.
  • Operate a variety of manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDMs.
  • Perform precise measurements and inspections using metrology equipment to ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve tooling issues affecting production quality or efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineers and production teams to optimize tool design and manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on tooling to extend lifespan and ensure reliability.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Tool Maker apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in operating and setting up precision machining equipment (e.g., lathes, mills, grinders, EDM).
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges, CMM).
  • Strong understanding of metallurgy, heat treatment, and various tool steels.
  • Proven problem-solving skills for diagnosing and repairing tooling issues.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software for tool design and programming.
  • Experience with welding and/or brazing for tool repair and modification.
  • Familiarity with advanced metrology equipment (e.g., CMM, optical comparator).
  • Knowledge of heat treatment processes for tool steels.
