Staff Accountant | East Lansing, MI

Salary Range: $54,000 - $84,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entry preparation and account reconciliations.
• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices and payments.
• Prepare and analyze financial reports, variance explanations, and key performance indicators (KPIs) relevant to manufacturing operations.
• Participate in inventory accounting, including cycle counts, valuation, and costing analysis.
• Assist with the preparation of budgets and forecasts, and monitor actual performance against budget.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies, and assist with audits.
• Support the fixed asset accounting process, including additions, disposals, and depreciation calculations.
• Collaborate with production and operations teams to understand cost drivers and identify areas for cost savings.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with inventory valuation and cost of goods sold calculations.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Bonus Qualifications

• - Experience with ERP systems common in manufacturing (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics)
• - Familiarity with cost accounting principles and variance analysis
• - Certification such as CPA or CMA
• - Experience with inventory valuation methods (e.g., FIFO, LIFO, weighted-average)
