Salary Range: $61,000 - $96,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs for lathe machines using CAM software and G-code.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, inserts, and workholding devices for specific part geometries and materials.
  • Simulate and verify CNC programs to ensure collision avoidance, optimize tool paths, and predict cycle times.
  • Develop and maintain detailed setup sheets, tooling lists, and operational instructions for machine operators.
  • Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and quality control to troubleshoot machining issues and improve processes.
  • Conduct post-process analysis to identify opportunities for program optimization, scrap reduction, and efficiency gains.
  • Ensure all programming adheres to engineering specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in CNC lathe programming in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, GibbsCAM, Fusion 360) for 2-axis and multi-axis lathe operations.
  • Expertise in G-code and M-code for manual program editing, debugging, and optimization.
  • Ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Strong knowledge of cutting tools, inserts, workholding, and various material properties.
  • Experience with program simulation and verification to ensure accuracy and prevent machine collisions.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with multi-axis turning centers (e.g., Y-axis, sub-spindle, live tooling).
  • Proficiency in a second major CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidCAM, Fusion 360).
  • Experience with shop floor simulation software (e.g., Vericut, NCSIMUL).
  • Ability to design basic workholding or fixtures.
