Salary Range: $57,000 - $89,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, fabricate, and assemble precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures according to engineering specifications.
  • Perform maintenance, repair, and modification of existing production tooling to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Operate a variety of machine tools, including manual and CNC lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM equipment, with high precision.
  • Interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and CAD models to determine tooling requirements and manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct precise measurements using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and CMMs to verify part conformity and tool accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose tooling problems, implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime and improve production efficiency.
  • Collaborate with design engineers, production teams, and machinists to optimize tool design and manufacturing processes.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Journeyman Tool Maker certification or 5+ years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in operating a wide range of manual and CNC machine tools (e.g., lathes, mills, surface grinders, EDMs).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Expertise in using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, CMMs).
  • Solid understanding of tool steels, heat treatment processes, and tooling design principles for fabrication and repair.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with advanced metrology equipment (e.g., CMM operation, laser inspection).
  • Welding experience or certification for tool repair and fabrication.
  • Knowledge of heat treatment processes for various tool steels.
  • Proficiency in specific advanced CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Mastercam).
