Salary Range: $59,000 - $91,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

We are partnering with organizations in Portage that are seeking Tool Makers. These companies are committed to building strong teams and are looking for professionals who can lead initiatives effectively. Key Responsibilities

• Designs and builds jigs, fixtures, and production tools.
• Operates a variety of machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and EDMs.
• Interprets blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine specifications.
• Performs precision measurements using a range of inspection equipment.
• Troubleshoots and repairs existing tools and dies to maintain production efficiency.
• Selects appropriate materials and heat treatments for tool longevity and performance.
• Collaborates with engineers and production staff to optimize tool designs.

Recommended Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited apprenticeship program or relevant vocational training preferred.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Demonstrated expertise in operating manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDMs.
• Strong understanding of metallurgy, heat treatment processes, and material properties.
• Proficient in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and optical comparators.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Tool Maker in a manufacturing environment.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with CAD/CAM software for tool design and programming.
• Familiarity with EDM and/or grinding processes.
• Certification in a related field (e.g., machining, metallurgy).
• Proven ability to mentor or train junior toolmakers.
• Experience with 5S or other lean manufacturing principles.
