Salary Range: $61,000 - $93,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, machine, and assemble precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures from blueprints, sketches, or CAD models.
  • Perform routine maintenance, repair, and modification of existing tooling to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Operate a variety of machine shop equipment, including manual and CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and EDM machines.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and material requirements.
  • Conduct precise measurements using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and CMMs to verify tool accuracy and quality.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose tooling problems, implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime and and improve production efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to optimize tool design and manufacturing processes.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Completion of a certified Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship or 5+ years of equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in operating and setting up a variety of manual and CNC machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders, EDMs).
  • Expertise in interpreting complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Skilled in using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators).
  • Strong understanding of various metal properties, alloys, heat treatment processes, and their machinability.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex tooling, dies, jigs, and fixtures.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam).
  • Experience operating CMMs or other advanced metrology equipment.
  • Welding skills (e.g., TIG, laser welding) for tool repair and modification.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
