Controls Engineer | Allendale, MI

Salary Range: $82,000 - $127,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement industrial control systems including PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA.
  • Program and configure programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and human-machine interfaces (HMIs) for automated machinery.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex electrical, software, and automation issues to minimize production downtime.
  • Lead the installation, commissioning, and validation of new control systems and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive electrical schematics, control documentation, and software backups.
  • Ensure all control systems comply with safety standards, quality requirements, and operational specifications.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives for existing control systems and manufacturing processes.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and HMI/SCADA development.
  • Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP).
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex control system issues.
  • Experience with robotics programming and integration (e.g., Fanuc, KUKA, ABB).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop electrical schematics and control panel layouts.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial robotics programming and integration (e.g., Fanuc, Kuka, ABB).
  • Proficiency with vision systems for quality inspection and guidance (e.g., Cognex, Keyence).
  • Familiarity with MES/SCADA integration and data historians (e.g., Ignition, Rockwell Historian, OSIsoft PI).
  • Knowledge of industrial network design and cybersecurity best practices for control systems.
