Tool Room Supervisor | Traverse City, MI

Salary Range: $68,000 - $100,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the organization, maintenance, and inventory control of all tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and other manufacturing equipment.
• Implement and enforce strict tool management policies and procedures to ensure accountability and prevent loss or damage.
• Schedule and supervise the repair, calibration, and replacement of tools and equipment to minimize downtime.
• Train and mentor tool room staff on proper tool handling, maintenance techniques, and safety protocols.
• Manage tool crib operations, including issuing and receiving tools, and maintaining accurate digital and physical records.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify tooling needs, troubleshoot issues, and recommend improvements.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized tool room environment.
• Monitor tool usage patterns and lead times to optimize inventory levels and procurement strategies.

Recommended Qualifications

• Proven experience in tool room operations and management.
• Strong understanding of tooling, machining processes, and materials.
• Excellent leadership and team supervision skills.
• Proficiency in inventory management and spare parts control.
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance schedules for tooling.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

Bonus Qualifications

• - Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
• - Familiarity with preventative maintenance scheduling and execution.
• - Basic understanding of CNC machining principles.
• - Certification in a relevant trade (e.g., machinist, tool and die maker).
• - Experience with inventory management software beyond basic ERP functions.
